A Not Review Of Man Of Steel

I was originally going to write a — sort of — review about “Man of Steel”, or as I would like to call it, “Meh of Steel”… because… well… I thought it was kind of “meh”. But then I got bored of that and decided on not writing it. I also figured that there’s plenty of reviews out there and I really don’t have anything further to add to it.

Warning: Spoilers!

I then changed my mind again. Or did I?

Sure, it was overall a pretty good movie. Personally I would have liked less of the freaking origin story again, because I’ve seen it more times than I’d like to. But no, again we’re greeted by;

Woman giving birth to — it’s a flashback — our glorious savour Jesus Superman, being born. And cut to panning shot of Pandora Krypton in the shades of orange and teal. Blah blah, exposition followed by drama and obligatory action which kind of ruins it for me.

But aside for the drawn origin stuff that I honestly didn’t care for very much, the other thing that bothered was Superman killing General Zod.

I’m of course talking about this scene.

Oh, right. I was supposed to review “Man of Steel”. But as you might recall, I also changed my mind. But here’s the thing. So Superman has killed General Zod… twice now. And I’m sort of fine with that… but what I’m not as fine with is the fact that I don’t think Superman cared especially much.

Yeah, that’s my criticism. I genuine didn’t feel like Superman valued human life all that much nor had I seen him constraint himself especially much growing up. So, whilst I get the need to build this reasoning for why Superman doesn’t kill, they just failed on selling me the idea that this is something he cares about.

But like I said, I wasn’t going to review “Man of Steel” even though I suppose I kind of just did. So, I’m sorry about that.

You know what you should watch though. Where the character development is much for poignant and I genuinely feel like the various characters show remorse as they are forced to do things they don’t want to.

Go watch all the cut scenes to “The Last of Us”. I don’t own a Playstation 3 and figured I’m probably never going to play this game and whilst I’m sure the story has even more impact if you play it, I have to recommend it anyway. The story is gripping. I’m impressed. My kudos to Naughty Dog.

Seriously, go watch it right now. It’s better than “Meh of Steel”.

And they both have beautiful beards, so there’s always that.
